5 easy steps to make your blog posts SEO friendly

The idea around making your blog posts SEO friendly is to provide more information to the search engines on what your blog post is about. In return they will know where to rank your blog post in their search engine rankings. The below 5 tips will take an extra 5 minutes to your blog posts, however the rewards in terms of targeted search engine traffic will be worth it!

1) Keyword Research

Tools such as Overture Keyword Tool and Word Tracker find those niche keywords that have searches with low competition. What others are searching for may differ from what you would search. A prime example is my recent Blog post Amsterdam Hotel Krasnapolsky Review – Before researching the keywords, I had written Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam Review. Researching all the variations of my title reviled that Amsterdam Hotel Krasnapolsky Review had 25 more searches and nearly 1000 less competition.

2) Title Tag

The title tag is one of the most important areas to add your keywords – keywords that relate to your blog post. Search Engines like Google will use this information to determine what your post is about, and possibly rank your post for this keyword.

3) Meta Tags

Add the keywords to your blog post meta tags. Again, this is to provide Search Engines information on what your blog post is about.

4) ALT Text

When search engines crawl your blog posts they can not determine what the images are about. We can provide them with information via using ALT tags. ALT tags are the box that appears when you move your mouse over an image that has text based information. Adding keywords here will help Search Engines understand what your images are about.

5) Image File Names

I receive around 500 unique hits purely from adding keywords to the image file names. Sites like Google Images use this information when adding images to their results.

Using the above 5 easy tips will help Search Engines understand what your posts are about, which will hopefully convert into higher search engine positions for your targeted keywords. High search engine positions will result in more traffic, targeted traffic!
