After searching around online for options on what to have for lunch, I stumbled on Bun Cha – pork burger like meat balls with grilled pork and lot’s of other light goodies to compliment the BBQ’s meat.
The restaurant named Dac Kim located on Hang Manh street kept on coming up as the best Bun Cha restaurant in Hanoi – So with a map in hand I went to see what all the fuss was about.
The restaurant is nothing special to look at, but that didn’t matter as I wasn’t here for a candle lit dinner for 2… I was here for the street-like, delicious every day Vietnamese food.
There is no menu. The restaurant only specialises in one dish… Bun Cha. It was extremely busy even at 4pm with seating up stairs, however I sat down stairs where the sweet aromas coming from the kitchen 3 foot away from me was very welcome.
Lady frying veggie spring rolls.
Our first dish of many arrived; freshly fried spring rolls. This is for 1 person… when you see what else we were given, it was just to much for one person to consume!
Rice noodles… I’ve never really been a fan (I prefer egg noodles – hence the name of this blog). However, they climbed a few delicious points when I mixed the rice noodles with the following:
A semi-sweet broth that contained cucumber, garlic and chilly.
The daddy… the main reason I visited and the reason I’ll be returning very soon. Roasted pork with pork like burgers. These were so yummy and were simply eaten on their own using chop sticks.
A very friendly Vietnamese man showed me how I should eat Bun cha… with 4 different plates of food, I needed his help.
The mammasan of Bun Cha.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Hanoi’s street food and this place didn’t let me down. For $2 I was served a feast, and the feast was extremely good, full of flavor and dam right tasty.

Yes! I love this place.
It;s defo one of my favs… I’ve been there twice this week :)
I love Bun Cha. Its interesting that Bun Cha in Nothern Vietnam is prepared differently than in Southern Vietnam. Also, the spring rolls are friend where in Saigon they are usually wrapped in rice paper and eaten raw.
Even though I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Vietnam this year, I’ve yet to have fresh spring rolls lol
Are they good?
fresh spring rolls are just that, fresh dipped in peanut sauce the fresh mint gives a powerful kick.
I loved this place… stumbled on by word of mouth of a fellow traveller on our first day in Hanoi… went back twice.. authentic, cheap and so so good!
