Creating The MergePay Promo Video

A few days ago my friend Ian, the founder of MergePay (a application that helps you keep track of your finances) called and said he needed a promo video quick before the iPhone app was released in the app store. A 3 day drive covering 1,200km later, I arrived in the beautiful town of Pai in Northern Thailand where MergePay is based, and we we’re ready to shoot.

It was a fun day filming and a not-so-fun night of editing, but we did it! I’m really pleased with how the video turned out and I’m now feeling confident my videos are worthy of a few pennies, hence I created a page detailing my short documentary video services.

Fireside Chat With Mike Chapman – Location Independent For 16 years

Last week my good friend Mike agreed for me to come over to his house to record a short interview about being location independent. It was a chance to learn about his travels and to find out what it means to be location independent for 16 years!

This was also an opportunity to practice my interviewing skills, as this is the first time I’ve ever interviewed someone on camera. I plan to interview many more people in the coming months for my project Asia Business Hub. Please do let me know what you think, and any constructive criticism you have in the comments below!

Video / Website Design Inspiration

Having designed thousands of websites over the years, myself and my team now have a pretty good system in place when we are tasked to design a new website. The first step is to spend a few hours looking for inspiration – whether we are designing a website for a client who has completed our survey or designing a site for in-house use. This is not copying, this is just getting ideas on the different elements that make a great website – such as colours, navigation styles, forms, fonts etc.

In my first video cast, I cover my favourite online resources I personally use to get website design inspiration. These include Dribbble, Theme Forrest and CSS Mania.

Please let me know what you think of my first videocast and let me know if you have any questions you’d like me to cover in a future episode.

Best street food in South East Asia Video Reaches 100,000 Views

One of the first videos I published online back in March 2009 was from a trip touring all over Vietnam. The video is titled “Best street food in South East Asia” and features me reviewing some tasty street food in Hoi An. Today I noticed the video has reached over 100,000 views, with 172 Likes and 176 comments. Pretty impressive for a spare of the moment kind of video.

I’ve received a fair amount of traffic via this video and have connected with many viewers, which reconfirms my views on why every blogger and business owner should be using video to market their brand.

I’ve decided to set up a weekly video podcast here on this site. I’ll record the first episode next week. If you have any recommendations for topics you would like to see me cover, please leave your ideas in the comments below.
