Clubbing in Bangkok

I thought I would list some of the best clubbing spots in Bangkok for anyone that likes to boogie…
RCA (Royal City Avenue)
Royal City Avenue is probably the most well known area for clubs in Bangkok. Here you have one street that is closed off during Friday and Saturday night in order to let the crowd pass through the different check points entering the various different clubs. Beware that during these nights in gets very busy. Entering any club on this road is free. Music either is Hip-hop or House.
If you want to experience good music, very plush soundings with upper class Thai’s, RCA is your best bet.
Latch-ar-dar soi 4
I like this area purely as it’s all Thai. I very rarely see another farang and the Thai’s seem to appreciate that I’m there singing and dancing to Thai music. I would guess you have 6 bars rather than clubs on this soi, each are free to enter.
If you want to experience Thai style clubbing with Thai tunes then this is where to go.
Latch-ar-dar Soi 6/8
The major club on this road is called Hollywoods, and it’s huge! Probably the biggest club in Bangkok. Thai and western style music. You have to pay 400B which includes 2 free drinks. Another option is a lively bar called Bali just down the road from Hollywoods, here they play mostly Thai music with some 90’s western tunes including the Spice Girls.
Pat Pong
This bar style club is half way down the main strip with the market running through the middle. I’ll be honest, if you are going clubbing as a couple, the missus may get a little jealous as the place is full of bar girls trying to pick up clients. If you are going as a group, then this shouldn’t be a problem. The club starts picking up rather late, funny enough when the go-go bars start to close. The bar normally has a hip-hop band on. The downside is the drinks are expensive compared to the other night spots.
A few Notes:
- In the Thai style clubs you tend to buy a bottle, Thai’s normally go for the Johnnie Walker Whiskey with Water, coke and a bucket of Ice. You then share with your friends.
- Most places, especially RCA, require ID, no matter how old you look.
- In rare cases, the police will raid the club and carry out drug tests on EVERYBODY. Beware if you have drugs in your system!
- The atmosphere in the Thai clubs are, in my humble opinion, the best in the world - Everyone is there to have a good time - don’t be the stupid falang that spoils it! (I’ve never seen a fight in a Bangkok Club. I see 3 or 4 a night when clubbing in London)
- Most bars and clubs start to fill at around 11.30 and close at 2am
- If you only have one night to spare for dancing in Bangkok, I would either head to RCA first at around 10.30ish then get a quick taxi to Latch-ar-dar soi 4 for a few drinks to experience Thai style clubbing!
Can anyone else recommend other dancing spots in Bangkok that are worth checking out?

Bangkok here I come.. Chiang Mai is getting boring…..
I’ll be honest, I don’t know what everyone sees in CM. I’ve visited twice and both times got bored after a few days. However, Bangkok is a love/hate relationship - There are just the same amount of bad to good points about Bangkok. I guess there is no “perfect” place, anywhere lacks something… That’s why travelling is so cool… You can get a bit of this, the next day a bit of that…
