I have seen my Thai friends eat some weird food since living in Thailand, and I have even tried quite a bit myself, including deep fried maggots, spiders, worms, frog soup and many others. None of these have been to my liking, however you have to try other wise you don’t know right?
I went to a Soi (road) to get something to eat, I called some Thai friend to ask if they wanted me to bring anything back for them, they replied “gung Den” which translates to Dancing Shrimps. At first I thought they were playing a joke on me, a bit like asking for a “Long Wait” from a home department store. Then I thought, hey, this is Thailand, anything is possible. So, I follow their directions and there I saw a fish tank full if little shrimps. I asked for some gung den and sure enough that’s what I was given – Small shrimps in fish sauce with herbs and chilli. What I didn’t realise until I got to back was the shrimps were still alive! And yes, they were dancing!
