Discrimination laws in Thailand

Secretary Needed
Adventure Travel Blog requires a Female Secretary to carry out admin duties in the office. Applicants must be female and aged between 19 to 24. Please send your résumé along with 2 pictures of yourself via email.

These highly discriminative job specs are posted everywhere on Thai job web sites and in Thai employment publications. There are no laws like there are in the UK where everyone should be treated equal.

If an employer wants to seek a young beautiful Secretary with long silky legs, then he can request this in his job spec.

Personally I think it’s okay for an employer to request there exact specs. Last year I wanted to employee a female worker, not because I wanted some sexy tart in the office, but to balance the office out with men/women.

If an employer is shallow minded and wants beauty over brains, letting him run his required specs or not will make no difference to who he will employ. He just saves time and the applicants time in coming in for an interview.

What’s your take on it?
