I once read a story (sorry, can’t remember who wrote it) of 2 guys taking their families away for a holiday. Both guys had organized full time nannies to take care of their kids for a few hours per day throughout the holiday. One guy gives the nanny some money on the first day while the other guys waits for the end of the holiday to see how good the nanny was, so he could determine how much of a “tip” should be rewarded.

Come end of the holiday, the nanny that received the tip on the first day really went out of her way to make sure the kids had lots of fun, while the other guy received a nanny that didn’t really put any enthusiasm into the other families kids.

When I first read this I thought that if the nannies were friends and the one who received the tip on the first day told the other one, this could have been the reason why she wasn’t interested in giving a good service. After all, these 2 families were in the same group, so the nannies might have thought they had the same way of doing things.

Since reading this, I’ve made a note of tipping before…

How about you, do you tip before or wait until you have received a good service before decide whether to tip or not?

Normally, I don’t get a chance to pay for a service until after it’s rendered, so I always tip afterward. People expecting tips should have the expectation of a good tip as motivation enough to provide good service. Just my opinion. What if you tip in advance and they don’t think your tip is enough? :)

Hi Lisa – I guess there is always that chance of tipping before hand and then not receiving a good service…. but I think the majority would be inclined to put that extra bit of effort in.

Never have tipped before, never will. But, if it means getting better service, of course it makes since.
By the way… You have 500 websites, WOW. How many of them are making you a decent amount? What are some of them (the domain names)?
You seem like a very ambitious person.
I looked at BaseSite, whoever bought it from you isn’t doing much to keep it going. It seems very un-updated, and many of the links don’t go anywhere.

Hi Serge…

Funny enough, I looked at your web site via your recent Shoemoney post as I originally thought it was my mate who shares the same name as you :)

As for Base Sites, the buyer did not want the actual web site basesites.com… I sold the existing sites along with the user database. When moving the site over to the new server, I made sure this was at the bottom of the list to get sorted out as sites that are generating revenue were placed at the top.

The day I leave Thailand, which won’t be in the near future, I’m going to publish all of my domains/sites :) Until then, I’m just not able too. I’ll be launching my on-line magazine in a month or so and will openly talk about this project, so please stay tuned!
