Krabi is one of Thailand’s most beautiful provinces, so it was a pleasure driving past great scenery for 3 to 4 hours each day on route to Bangkok from Krabi, stopping of at Chumphon and Hua Hin along the way.
Thailand’s roads are great, and car hire is very cheap here… so the next time you are about to take a flight and have a bit of time to spare, I highly recommend you consider driving. It gives you a great opportunity to get of the beaten path whenever you feel like – which is my preferred way to travel.
Chumphon was quite, yet the Toong Wua Laen beach was awesome! We met up with some blog readers from France for a great lunch on the beach before making our way up to Hua Hin.
I’ve visited Hua Hin a few times now and it gets better each time I go there. There are many great restaurants serving up great western and Thai food, and the beach, along with the nightlife isn’t that bad either. As Hua Hin is only a few hours drive from Bangkok, it makes for a nice little retreat from the traffic and smoke.
While in Bangkok for a few days, I visited the German Brewery on Rama 3. I used to live down the road from this place but never visited while living in Bangkok. Shame, as it was an awesome night out with some Thai friends driving some pretty yummy home brewed beer while listening to Isaan music. Good times.
Yesterday I flew up to Mukdahan to get a few days of work done, before going over to Savanakhet in Laos.
All in all, a good week of travel.
