At 1am this morning my friend receives a phone call from another friend wanting to know where we were, as a fire broke out in a club that we have all visited in the past – Obviously, none of us knew the scale of the fire and casualties involved.

At 12.30am this morning, a fire broke out in a club called Santika, located in Ekamai Road, killing around 60 and injuring hundreds: both Thai’s and foreigners. Apparently the fire broke out due to a fire works display on the stage.

I am so sad. Many clubbers in Bangkok are my age and are among the friendliest people you could meet in Thailand. My condolences go out to the victims and their relatives. RIP.

I have visited a lot of clubs in Bangkok this year and I have often said that if a fire erupts, everyone is doomed. Most clubs are filled way beyond capacity… due to the club owners paying off the police in order to sell a few more bottles of whiskey. Emergency exits are rare and are poorly indicated and the construction/electrical in most buildings here in Thailand is a joke. I really hope the clubs in Bangkok learn a lesson here, but I doubt it.

do your research before you say things. its not hundreds killed or hundreds injured. Stop trying to cash in on disaster. real people died. if youre gonna be a reporter do it right and get the facts first.

My mistake – I’ve edited the title.

Just goes to show that you shouldn’t trust what you read on personal blog. As for my cashing in on this tragedy is a bit unfair to say, considering I get no financial gain out of updating my personal blog.
