My inspirations for starting Coconut TV came from many different ideas, but there were a few “oh’ shit!” moments that made me take the leap. Firstly, I liked what Kevin Rose was doing with he’s Foundation series, combining great video work with interviewing interesting people. Secondly, after reflecting on life when my father and best friend passed away last year, I realised that whatever I did, I needed to love doing it.
I’ve heard some cringe worthy business advice recently that advocates the complete opposite. The general advice is that business is business, and you don’t necessarily have to do what you love. I think that’s bullshit. Some of the best business advice I’ve heard this year is from Om, featured in the video above. Some of Om’s quotes I really resinate with:
Do what you really give a shit about.
There is no play book to being a founder, an entrepreneur. You figure shit out as you go along.
You need to do what you love, otherwise what is the point?
With one life, why would you spend it on things you don’t care about?
You may disagree, but to me the complete win-win situation in life is to aways be doing something you love and care about. And like Om says… Otherwise, what’s the point?
