Homeless guy with a big mac
The best feeling in the world is: giving
Last night I went to the 7-11 store at about 10ish, on the way I walked over a bridge and there was a homeless guy laying there asleep with a thin blanket over him. I decided to buy him some food, but there was no where to buy food apart from a McDonalds, so I thought a big mac meal will do… I wasn’t sure if he likes Big Mac’s, or if he has even eaten McDonalds before.
When I returned to the bridge I said “hey brother, eat food, no problem, good luck” (in Thai) and he woke up, said thank you and then buried his head in his hands and started crying/shacking.
On the way back home I kept having mixed thoughts: on one hand I kept seeing this image of a grown man crying and on the other I was intrigued to know whether he enjoyed his Big Mac.
The thing is, there’s not really an escape route for homeless Men here in Thailand, women can easily turn to prostitution (not that I agree with this) with no government help I started to think how I (and maybe you?) could help – Any ideas?
I would have loved to have sent my missus round to her mates and got him back to my apartment for a shower and a good night’s kip. In the morning I would take him to Tesco to buy him some clothes and get him doing something at my office. 6 months down the road he would speak some English, know how to drive a computer, have a girlfriend and have a place he could call home. Sadly, my missus didn’t entertain the idea.
My good gesture only cost $3 and was worth every single penny – It was better than a posh meal or receiving a big fat check from an ad network! (although in reality I need these checks if I want to continue helping the less fortunate)
So, the next time you are about to buy that bar girl a cola, why not decline and buy a homeless guy a big mac!

Alone We can all make some small difference in this world. United we can make a big difference.
You are a good man, Chris!
Should have bought him a big Chang as well !
Totally agree with you…The best feeling in the world is: giving
I always have some snack/ fruit/candy etc in a car. So whenever I see kids on street (they sell garland most of the time), I offer them food. I dont support the idea of kids selling stuff on the street though.
