How I book my long haul flights

I’ve done my fair share of long haul flights over the last 5 years, more than I care to remember, however I always have the same routine for searching the cheapest fare. Firstly, I begin by checking out to on-line agencies: www.lastminute.com and www.expedia.co.uk. After I have worked out the cheapest fares with each airline and taking into consideration the departing and arriving times, I then check the rates with the airlines web sites.

That’s it, thats all I do. I’m sure I could save an extra $20 if I spent 10 hours searching on-line, but I value 10 hours of my time at more than $20!
4 years ago Expedia was always the cheapest for direct flights between Bangkok and London, however over the last 2 years going direct with airlines (via their web sites) has proven to be the cheapest option.

I’ve also done my fair share of up-grading on the Bangkok to London route, so thought I’d offer my thoughts on the airlines premium/business classes.

Firstly, if you just want that extra bit of leg room and seat width, I highly recommend Eva Air’s premium economy class. At $200 or so, it’s a great deal to be had.

I thought Thai Airways business class was the same as Eva Air premium economy, but with a big price difference.

If you want to fly in style, you can’t beat the only airline that offers 100% fully flat beds on the Bangkok to London route: British Airways. The return fare will set you back $6,000+, I wrote about my first BA Club World experience here.
