Laap

I first tried Laap when I visited Lao, since then I have been hooked! It’s great on a nice sunny day with a cold beer — preferably Beer Lao
When I last visit the UK, I made Laap a few times to show my friends how good it is. I did change it a little, in my opinion, to improve it!
Here’s the recipe, for 2 people sharing:
Ingredients:
- 1 x Big Lime
- 1 x beef steak — (Use the best steak you can buy, something like sirloin)
- 1 x Red eye chilly (The small hot ones. Chop finely)
- 1 x small onion (Chop into big pieces)
- A little salt
- A big handful of Fresh Mint (Rip the mint up with your fingers into small pieces)
- A beer each
Add a tiny drop of oil in a pan, under medium heat. Let it get hot and add the chopped onion. Whilst the onion is getting soft and a little brown, mince the meat your self (Don’t buy mince meat as this is not how’s it’s done — If you buy mince meat, it becomes to fine) I cut the beef, removing the fat into small pieces and the with a big sharp knife, start whacking the beef really fast until it looks like home made mince.
Once the onion has gone soft, add the beef, a pinch of salt and the chilly. Don’t cook the beef to much, maybe a minute or so. Then remove from the heat, quickly add the fresh mint and the juice of a big lime. Mix well and serve with the cold beer.
