MK Restaurant Review, Bangkok, Thailand

MK Restaurant

I’m a huge fan of MK - A Suki style restaurant whereby you order ingredients to put into a soup bowl in the middle of the table and everyone in the group waits for the food to cook and then shares it out between everyone. The name MK comes from the owner naming the restaurant after his 2 daughters, one called M and the other… ok, you got it!

Personally I’m not keen on the Suki bit - I think to many ingredients cooking together creates an awful flavor, so I cook some prawns for myself before everything else goes in the pot! What I particular like thou at MK is the side dishes you can order! The pictures and video will reveal all :)

The service and price at all MK restaurants (MK is a huge nationwide chain) is truly outstanding! I like the way MK uses PDA’s when they take orders, so the people in the kitchen can start preparing the food while the waitress is still at the table! Also, you’ll notice most waiters and waitresses are students working part time during the holidays and weekends, they are between 16 and 18 years old and make 20b (30p) per hour! So with that in mind, don’t be a cheap charlie with your tips :)

Bannana Milk Shake

The banana milk shakes are excellent :)

MK Hot Pot

The hot pot in the middle of the table where you cook your food in the broth/soup

Here we have a mix of beef, prawns, squid and vegetables that goes inside the hot pot!

First things first, we cook my prawns!

Followed by Prawns in a water and flour casing - These are particularly good!

Then we add the rest of the ingredients

House Sauce, which comes with extra Garlic and Chilly along with some streamed rice

Green egg noodles with crispy garlic on top. These noodles mixed with the house sauce is so yummy!

Roasted red pork with a yummy gravy! - I’ve been known to eat 2 of these to myself! :)

Roasted Duck - This serving was smaller than average but still damn good

Here’s a video of adding the food into the hot pot!

All the above come to 650b (10 pounds)!!

The deserts are not all that but on the other side of the walk way, there is a Haagan Dazs ice cream shop:

A freshly baked waffle with strawberry and banana, caramel sauce with banoffe and toffee ice cream!

Myself and the misuss have had this same routine every Saturday for months now: visit MK, then HD, followed by going to watch a movie! A near perfect way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon :)

Have you tried MK before? What are your thoughts?

I’m more of a fuji person, never really enjoyed being dragged to MK. I dont know the difference but have you tried MK Gold?

I’ve tried MK gold once with a mate who wanted to impress his new girlfriend at Siam Paragon - It’s the same menu but different table mats, spoons and surroundings with a higher price tag to boot. Nothing special.

I was also a huge fan of Fuji before I tried Zen - If you haven’t tried Zen yet, I highly recommend. If I have time over the weekend I’ll visit and write a review :)

Thats funny, I was a huge fan of Zen before I tried Fuji. The foods fine but the service in Zen here in Phuket is terrible

I don’t like MK. I like kaw-keng-pak-tai (South of Thailand’s food), Hot, spicy and delicious for me.
