Coconut TV

I’m not sure how many of you noticed but this blog has been off-line for around 20 hours. Those 20 hours have been an unpleasant experience waiting to see if I would get this blog back.

It started last night when I was transferring/delete/uploading and downaloading more sites that I care to mention. I was in the process of deleting some sites from the old server which have already been transferred across to the new one. While deleting I accidently pressed “delete” for this domain, although I haven’t backed up the files on this domain as yet. As soon as I pressed the delete button I thought “shhhhhhhhit” however luckily the server promts a confirmation button.

This is when it started to go wrong.

My phone rings so I answer it and start to talk, while I’m chatting I notice a message on my chat messenger, so I go to see who it is. Anyway, after the phone call I return to the server page and click “confirm” to delete my site.

I had forgotten that I just accidentally pressed delete on this domain, which has not been backed up or moved to the new server.

The second I pressed my mouse click I knew what I had done and shouted “FUCK!” from the top of my voice. I started to panic trying to hit the stop button. I then got the standard message saying “the site will be removed from the server within 5 minutes”

Knowing that my server company isn’t very good at backing up my databases, which is one of the reasons why I’m moving host, I had nightmares thinking that all those articles I’ve written over the years have just gone up in smoke… and it’s all my fault.

The next step was to see if I could recover the Mysql database and luckily I could – That meant all my posts and comments were okay – A big sign of relief.

I then had to wait for support to contact me back to see if I could get my site files back – I’ve done a lot of customization on this theme from it’s orginal version so I was preying they could get it back, otherwise that would have meant 2/3 days sorting it out the way it was before (or how you see the blog now)

Luckily the hosting company did have a backup, I downloaded the files this morning, uploaded them to my new server and now it’s all working fine.

I’m typing this with a huge grin on my face :)

Lesson learnt: Keep focused on one project at the time!

If you notice any bugs… I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know in the comments :)
