After a day of exploring Nanning, it was time to make our way north into one of the most prettiest parts of China; Guilin.
After waking up nice and early we made our way over to the train station to buy our tickets. I had asked the manager of the hotel to write down what we needed (2 tickets, fast train to Guilin) prior to going as I knew no one would understand English at the station, and I was correct. The ticket for the 5 hour journey north cost 65¥ (£6.50)
The train journey it’s self was interesting… lot’s of people were playing cards for money, eating very loudly or sleeping on each others shoulders (even if they were not together). Ladies went down the isles every 10 minutes selling fruit, instant noodles or rice with meat/veg.
I didn’t realise people were able to buy standing tickets, so after a few stops the train carriage was full of people standing wherever they could, which made it a little uncomfortable. Saying that, the option to move around meant I would take the train over a bus any day.
Lunch: Chicken on the bone, tofu, bean-sprouts, carrot and a fried egg. This is easily the best food I’ve had on public transport. 10¥ (£1)
The closer we got to Guilin, the more impressive the scenery got.
