Never be ashamed of asking for advice
Over the last few months I’ve talked quite a bit about my new business venture: Selling base sites to finance the cost of building some on-line magazines. I knew from the early days of my idea that I would have to make many decisions that will either make or break my new business venture. I’ve always known I have a lot to learn… this is what makes business exciting for me… I’m not really worried about the money or the time I’ve put in, I’m more interested in doing my best and coming out at the other end a better and wiser man.
Around 2 weeks ago the business hit it’s first (of many I’m sure) big hurdle: I needed to find an alternative route to finance the magazines. After racking my brains for a week I decided to email the 6 brightest people I know, and trust me, these guys are very smart: from CEO’s of multi million pound companies, people who have spent years in the finance game to my Dad. I even emailed someone that I’ve never spoke to before. I feel very privileged to know these people and really appreciate their time they gave me, especially as they all have busy schedules.
Since emailing these guys, my life has changed… it’s amazing what came out of an email that took an hour to write (I even used spell check!). My point is, everyone knows smart people, so never be ashamed of asking them for help.
As for this business venture, it has changed dramatically… which will mean I’ll be closing the office and walking away from 3 months deposit (nearly half a million baht at out my own pocket… ouch!). By no means am I giving up… I’m just taking a new, structured direction - More on this later.
Second point is: Always be prepared for change.
