Not so perfect airport secruity
This post is dedicated to Marc, who has requested longer Blog posts!
Yesterday I was late arriving at the airport for my flight to Udon Thani, North East Thailand to visit some friends. I didn’t purchase a ticket before arriving so I ran over to the ticket sale desk as quick as I could, the lady hum’d and ar’d about it for a couple of seconds and decided to issue me a ticket as the luggage check in had closed (I only had a small bag and my lap top bag.)
The lady automatically checked me in at the ticket office so all I had to do was head over to the departure gate as quick as I could. I past one security point, where they x-rayed my bags, then onto the gate where they did the same. It was here that they noticed my nail scissors pack, containing a nail file and 2 pairs of scissors. I felt my gut drop as the nail set cost me a few quid when I visited Germany about 4 years ago. To my surprise, they took one look and let me go. I had mixed feelings – I was glad to keep my nail set, but did wonder about the security issue with it. What are your thoughts?
- The story of my nail set:
My papa had bought a nail set around 8-10 years ago when he visited Berlin in Germany. I always used to borrow it, along with my sisters as the scissors are the highest quality you can get, or I have seen. On a business trip to Berlin, I called and asked him if he could remember where he had bought the set from, he said all he could remember was the shop was in a little shopping mall. Walking around Berlin the following day, I come across a shop with the scissors in the window. I couldn’t believe my luck! The scissors are not cheap, I think my little set cost me £100+
The name on the side of the scissors is “Rostfrei” I’ve just done a quick search of Google but couldn’t find a link, it may be worth checking out Ebay…
Anyway, enough of me rumbling on about scissors!
This morning I went to a Buddhist ceremony, all the villages about a 10 mile radius joined together to celebrate something I didn’t understand. I recorded some of the monks praying on my phone, which sound so peaceful. I’ll try and up-load them on the blog when I return to Bangkok in a few days.
