Ramblings

Today I signed the agreement for my new office unit, it’s a huge stepping stone as I’ve been working on this project for 4 months now. I will be moving in on the 1st November due to some construction work that needs doing to the unit before hand. This works great with me, as I have learnt to expect problems with working with other Thai companies. You see, a simple job as ordering desks, chairs, computers and internet is not as simple as it should be here in the land of smiles. I’ve lived here long enough to realise that things like this are prone to go wrong. I’m not moaning, it’s just the way it is.

I went into Office Depot near the office unit and choose the desks I wanted, however they only had 5. I then went to another Office depot (same company) on the same road and they said I could have how ever many I wanted.

I was told by the estate agent who I’m dealing with to order the internet now as the process is never as simple as they say it’s going to be. I was instructed to call them, send over my company docs (the address has not been changed yet) and explain to them that they needed to contact the office building (as the office building would not call them direct) to make arrangements to install the telephone/net lines. 3 phone calls this afternoon and still no phone call as they can’t install the line due to my company documents do not have my new address on them. You see, this is where “Jai jen jen” (cool heart - calm/relax) comes into play.

I ordered my computers and monitors today, let’s see what problems they have in store for me!

I even had time this afternoon to go out and buy a suit/shoes etc, although as soon as we arrived, my girlfriend fainted in the shopping center and was rushed to the medical unit on-site. Central Chitlom has got to be one of the best shopping centers in Bangkok, not only for the Oriental Shop (who sells the best ice cream in Thailand), Marks & Spencer or Central food court, but for the staff. From the medical staff, the guys who got my missus a wheelchair to the man packing my food into plastic bags, it’s no wonder they are celebrating 60 years of business this year.

So, this moves me onto Suits… There are more places to get a suit made in Bangkok than any other city I have been too, due to the many tailors that offer made to order suits. So, why am choosing a shopping center over a custom made to order suit shop? Simply put, I’ve yet to see a quality suit made from a Bangkok tailor. Almost every friend/family that visits me can not turn down having a suit made to order for $300 (using the so called best materials), although they’ve been satisfied, I think always think that there is a huge difference in quality, fitting, materials et. etc. So, there you have it, I have always bought my suits from Marks and Spencer!

Back to business. I placed my job ads on jobdb.com and jobbkk.com - so far I have recived 400 CV’s from 5 advertised positions, with jobdb sending me around 70% - jobdb.com is 4 times the cost, but as my fav saying goes… you get what you pay for!

I will be operating the customer end of the business via my old site: SEO Bangkok - this is one of very few sites I own that I haven’t converted into Wordpress as yet, although it is on my list. I will be moving all my make money on-line posts to the SEO Bangkok Blog, while keeping this blog (which will move over to a new domain this year) strictly personal stuff and odd ramblings. I come up with a cool idea last night of having a Live Web Cam feed off the office/staff, so Mum and interested folks… you’ll be able to see me/the team in action!

I had another idea to get some artwork/posters to put up in the office, mainly pics of Ferrari 430’s and 360’s… While these have been known to make me climax, they also give me a great boast/drive to reach my goals, which is to own a Ferrari one day. I went onto Ebay to see what was available and saw some posters at around $20 each…. I then went onto Google Images, went into Advanced Search, selected extra big images and wholla! The same high res images on Ebay are there for the taking, so I’m going to head down to a local printers to get them printed and framed.

If posting on this blog is lite over the next couple of weeks, or even up to a month, you know what I’m doing with myself!
