Revolutionary idea that could change how Cinema’s work, forever!
The other night I was watching a really boring Thai scary movie t the cinema. Before lying down across 3 seats with my head nicely laid on top of my missus lap, my brain started to wonder.
Every time I go to the cinema it’s at most 20% full - This is when a new release is out or on a Saturday afternoon - prime time for going to the movies.
What if a Cinema was to offer free tickets. Yeap, 100% free to watch a movie, apart from the first showings of new releases. There would sure be more seats filled.
So, how does the cinema cover the loss from the 20% of paying customers? Well, there’s a number of ways I thought off while I was bored out of my nut, including:
- Increase the prices for drinks/snacks
- Have commercials at regular intervals during the movie - just like you would get when watching a film on free TV
- Everyone who wants to watch a movie must be a member, so you’d have a great list of opt in addresses and telephone numbers to sell to companies for direct marketing
- Market research - Before each member is allowed to watch a movie, they may have to take part in market research such as questionnaires, surveys or test different products for feedback.
- They must wear a specific T-Shirt with a company’s logo when entering the cinema - okay, this idea is stupid
Any other ideas on how you could make a Cinema profitable without charging for tickets? Do you think this is a stupid idea or a winner? Would love to hear your thoughts!

All of the ideas sound nice, but commercials within the movie? Not a sound idea to me. It’ll ruin the experience, IMHO.

The phrase beggars cant be choosers comes to mind:)
Does noone remember the old trips to the cinema…when there was an intermission half way through the show, and the ice cream lady came down the aisle selling ices and another selling popcorn….and there was a ‘B’ movie too….and even the news!
