Rice or Potato?

I’ve got a few ideas for some polls I want to run on the Blog and I thought I’d test my new wordpress plugin with a nice easy one that allows everyone to join in.

If you could only choose to eat either Rice or Potato for a year, which would you choose?

Before moving to Thailand I would have choose Potato, however since my diet has changed to rice nearly every day I’d now choose rice. I guess I eat 9 rice dishes, if not more per potato dish.

I like both, Rice is boring but healthy and potatoes are tasty and can do more of a variety of things. As I am a farang! as thai people say! That means I’m a potato! So gotta stick with my clique lol! POTATOES ALL THE WAY!!! COME ON YOU IRONS!!!

Potatoes are so versitile and you get so many varities, my favourites are Royal Jerseys, I could eat these everyday and are a good source of carbahydrates, especially with the skins on!

My list as follows;

Mashed
Fried (chips)
Boiled
Baked
Roasted
Sauted
Croquets
Hashbrowns
Duchess
Duphine (not sure on spelling)
Bombay (alo)
Can be pureed to put into soups
Topping for Sheppards pie
Lancaster Hot Pot
Mouseakka
Waffles
Potato salad

If anyone can think of anymore please add to my list!

Hi Chris, after living in the land of potato all these years, I still choose rice, must be instinctive for me, I still eat rice everyday, jasmine rice from Thailand.

Trevor - Thai people don’t think you’re a potato (Because your falang), it’s you’re mates that do! hahaha And yes, I’m looking forward to the outcome with the footy tonight!

Lin - A good list there. I didn’t know what Duchess or Duphine were so after a quick Google I now know!

Nye - I agree, quality jasmine rice is the best! As you know, cooked rice in Thai translates to “beautifull rice” Before moving here I thought white rice was all the same, but you soon learn there are many different grades in different establishments/countries in south east asia!

How do you vote? If I could vote, I would vote for tatties. There just aint a bad way to cook em. Thinking about it, it must soon be time for ‘New’ potatoes. Jersey Royals, with a hint of mint and a BIG KNOB of quality butter.
