Today was a public holiday here in Thailand, to commemorate King Rama V, King Chulalongkorn:

It was on this day that King Chulalongkorn passed away.  King Chulalongkorn is considered to be one of Thailand’s greatest and important kings and is remembered most for abolishing slavery and widespread reforms that included building railways, forming government ministries and establishing postal and telegraph services.

Thai people believe that paying respect to King Chulalongkorn will bring them good luck and fortune, and display his picture in their houses and businesses for this reason.

Like everyone else, I decided it was a good opportunity to take the day off.  After abit of shopping, some friends came over and I cooked some home made Italian cuisine: “Salsicce con lenticchive verdi e salsa di pomodoro” which in Italian means: Italian sausages and green lentils with tomato salsa.

Salsicce Con Lenticchive Verdi 2 Salsa

This was served with some freshly baked bread with a really nice cheese I picked up called “Old Amsterdam” and was washed down with a nice bottle of Chianti. To finish the really nice meal off, we ended with one of my favorite deserts: Creme brulee.
