I got held up on Chinese New year so went to China Town in Bangkok a lot later than planed. It was very quite and my friend had been right, no celebrations were to be held this year due to a Thai princess that passed away last month. Needless to say the restaurants and food stalls were quite busy, mainly filled with tourists. We had a wondered around and the couple of places that we wanted to eat at had no tables. We ended up going to Shanghai 38 – The restaurant I mentioned in my previous post re: the best Chinese restaurant in Bangkok.
Shanghai 38 is on the 38th floor of the Sofitel Hotel on Silom Road. During the day they hold a dim sum buffet which I had 4 years ago on my first ever visit to Bangkok. During the evening it’s ale carte menu with a singer singing classical Asian music from the stage, singing through an old classical microphone (I call it the Elvis Presley microphone) – It’s a nice touch to add with the impressive views of the city skyline. As you can imagine, for Chinese new year, the place was packed with Chinese families celebrating – I liked that, as you could tell a few of the old guys were getting very merry
This is what we had:

Hot and Sour Soup with shredded Chicken (Say-Shoe-An soup)

Honey Roasted Pork

Fillet Mignon with Hong Kong Sauce

Prawns in Mayo and Sesame

Chinese pudding with fruit

Sesame Balls in Ginger Sauce
As always, the food was top notch! The bill come in at 2,000b for the 2 of us, including tax, tips and 2 pots of Chinese tea!
