This is one of my favorite poems… written by a girl with cancer Davic L. Weatherford:
S L O W D A N C E:
Have you ever watched kids
on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down
Don’t dance so fast
Time is short
The music won’t last
Do you run through each day
On the fly
When you ask “How are you?”
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
running through your head?
You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast
Time is short
The music won’t last
Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
‘Cause you never had time
To call and say “Hi”?
You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast
Time is short
The music won’t last
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Good reminded to be more appreciative of our limited time on earth. Slow down and smell the roses. I love roses. :)
I love roses too :)
Wow. I remember watching a little girl getting chemo at Sloan Kettering when I was there for radiation. I wonder how she’s doing and whatever happened to her.
this is so true. And a very good reminder!
Relax and enjoy life!
So true…
Thankyou for the reminder to slow down
this is written by David L. Weatherford
Hello Chris
The poem is inspiring but its inclusions in the email stating it was written by a young girl with cancer is a hoax. As the comment above says the author is Davic L. Weatherford.
It would be good to replace the credit about the girl at the beginning of your post with the name of the real author.
For anyone who has doubts that it is a hoax simply Google “Slow Dance Poem”

Sorry I didn’t edit this earlier… although it’s now been edited. The site I saw this poem on mentioned the girl with cancer… hence me writing it here. My bad.
Thanks for letting me know.
