The Songkran festival is now officially over and I feel totally worn out. I don’t think I’ve ever partied the way I have done during the past few days in my life! 5 nights on the roll of dancing, drinking and retuning home at 6am has left me in a bit of a state – Luckily work has been taken care off and I’ve got today to rest before returning back to work tomorrow.
Songkran by night
This years Songkran was completely different to the 2 previous times I’ve been here during the festivals, the main difference was that I only played during the day once – all other times I started the fun at 9pm.
Overall it’s been a great few days, so good in fact that I’ll defiantly make sure I’m in Bangkok for next years Songkran festival. Songkran by night is a completely different experience – I’d say it’s the time adults get to have fun and not need to worry about kids being around.
I have been returning to RCA every night – the first night was by far the best, for 2 reasons: 1) the unexpected and 2) there were less crowds that night than the others.
There’s been some special moments from the last 5 nights, those I can remember include:
- Dancing with FHM models: My mate knows a lot of Thai models so we joined a few of them that are often on the front cover of Thai FHM. They were really nice and very, very beautiful. I hope to hang out with them again next week.
- Spitting on some ones face: A guy passed me a bottle of Jonny red label whiskey so I could take a mouthful – yeah, everyone shared there drinks which is pretty cool – I filled my mouth up so much that when I went to swallow it came up through my nose and I couldn’t help but spit most of it out, which landed right on the guys face. I was very apologetic and was lucky he was a really cool guy – he just asked me to spray water on his face from my water gun to get the whiskey mixed with my saliva off his face.
- “You’re an animal” simply means your hardcore when myself and my friends talk. For instance, if a mate was to have sex with 4 girls in one night, we would call him an animal. When I picked up my Thai mate he said in his broken English “Chris, do not let your animal instincts out tonight” This made me crack up!
- Girls going wild – Probably the most shocking thing I saw while there is how naughty the so called “good girls” were – These girls were not your average go go dancers, most of them are uni students and for a couple of days, just let their hair down! Great fun!
- Dancing on the table top: I was super pissed one night and I managed to climb up on a table right near the stage, with a wall right behind me – Having a spot like this made a huge difference – I was 4 feet taller than anyone else so could get a really good view while dancing away for hours.
- 5 girls jumped into my car while driving out of the car park one night! We all then went onto an after hours club – great fun!
- Ice Cold water – The shiver you experience from ice cold water poured down your back is very uncomfortable.
Last night I decided to take my camera to make a short movie, it’s not that good as I was so worried about it getting wet… so only shot the scene from one safe position. What you see here is about a tenth of the whole strip.
Sadly, the drive home last night sort of killed the few amazing days I’ve had. First I heard that there was a shotting in a pub called Slim and 2 people died (Not sure if this is true or not thou), I then saw the aftermath of a motorbike accident (On-Nut) and 5 mins later I saw a tuk tuk sandwiched between 2 huge lorries (Sathorn)- There was no way the tuk tuk driver could have survived as the tuk tuk was about a meter in length. Shame.
