This afternoon I decided to make a little home made video on one of my favorite meals… Steak with Red wine jus with Roast Rosemary and Thyme potatoes.

I’m not too comfortable in front of the camera, along with a bit of a cold, so I’m hard to understand on a few scenes!

I run out of memory on the camera right at the end, and just wanted to eat the damn steak! so I couldn’t show the finished masterpiece :( But hey, everyone who cooks this dish will get to see the finished piece themselves :)

I really enjoyed making the video and depending on the feedback, I might make some more :)

A few notes:

  • I made a mistake by saying I added extra virgin olive oil to the Potatoes and to rub onto the steak, in fact I used Olive oil – if you use extra virgin olive oil, it will burn!
  • I said that I use any cut of beef for steak as long as the colour and marbling of fat looks good, I meant any piece of beef that is perfect for steak – sirlion and rib eye (fillet tends to lack flavor)
  • I cook my beef for a minute each side – this will differ depending on a few things: 1) how you like your steak cooked, how thick the steak is and how hot your stove can get. The steak I cooked today turned out very rare – perfect for me!
  • For a velvety finish to the jus, whisk some non salted butter after the liquid has reduced – This gives a lovely finish but I’m back on a diet so skipped this today!
  • I also add a dollop of Creamed horseradish right at the end – Horseradish with steak is amazing!

Please do let me know what you think – it took far longer to edit the video than I thought it would take and also my dinner was kind of spoiled due to the fact of wanting to really show how I cook my food :) Feedback will make it all worth the while!

Also, I’d love to hear how you cook your steak – I understand there’s hundreds of ways to cook a steak, which all depends on where you are from or where you learn.
