Today was great… well, almost! I hired a motorbike and made the 50km or so journey to My Son, a Hindu temple complex similar to Angkor Wat in Cambodia – Only problem was, I forget the camera memory stick! What a twat. Luckily I was able to take a few shots with the internal memory, but I haven’t got the lead to get the photo’s onto my laptop just yet
Anyway, it was a great day out. The temple ruins were amazing to walk around, however it was the journey that made the day special. Kids were screaming at us from all directions. We stopped off to watch this young couple get married and a couple of hours later, we stopped off to watch a game of football in a local school that drew a huge crowd. It was also a great opportunity to see how the rural Vietnamese live, with many houses growing their own tobacco and watching the local women attending to rice crops is beautiful rice paddies.
After we got back we went to get some BBQ pork spring rolls, street side! This lady, a right character, is the only person I’ve seen selling these and they are so delicious! Here’s a quick video explaining what I’m eating:

wow, look delicious.is it call “Nam Nearng”?
Not sure… I did try it in a restaurant the next day and should of noted the name to up-date this post. Have you tried them before?
Thanks for the video Chris. I, too, love street food.
They are not “Nem Nuong” (Nem: sausage, Nuong: grilled or BBQ). They are BBQ pork. The pork is marinated. I was in Hoi An in January ‘09 and paid $1 for 5 bbq sticks. They were delicious.
You should also try “Cao Lau”, traditional Hoi An noodle: lettuce and mints on the bottom of the bowl; some steamed bean sprouts; then comes the noodles; marinated lean pork with its sauce and top with crispy chips. Very good!
Van Loc at 27 Tran phu Hoi An ph:0510.861.212 is the place that serves this and other great dishes.
Loved the video. I get excited about delicious street food too. Everywhere I go I look for it.
Same here Jason… It’s a shame so many stick their noses up a street food… if only they knew what the kitchens looked like at the restaurants they dinned at
And what a traitor you are
I just finished a grand Vietnamese meal tonight and enjoyed the freshness of the veg. Makes a sweet change (but I could do without all the sweet of Asia)
