The Long Bar - Singapore
My 2 favourite cocktails - Pina Colada and the Singapore Sling, both are very different to each other, and both are often poorly made in bars/resturants. The Singapore Sling was invented in the Long Bar, one of my favourite bars in the world, located in the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, so it’s not a suprise that they make it the best!
Every time I go to Singapore, I always head to the Long Bar, not only for the cocktails, but also for the excellent live band and also the atmosphere the band and furniture creates. The Long Bar is not stuffy as you might expect from a bar in a 5 star hotel, it has a very relaxed feel about the place. I also like the fact they offer free monkey nuts, which you just throw the shells onto the floor - I think it’s the only bar in the world where you can just clear your nut casings from your table straight onto the floor!
This is a bar my Mum and my Nan would love, every time I go here I always think of them - The great drinks, the lovely surroundings and the great music make it a great bar!
All this aside, the cocktails are not cheap, and as they slide down very easily, (I you can eaisly drink 2 or 3 an hour!), it can get expensive - 8 cocktails came to about $140
So, if you visit Singapore, make sure you check out the Long Bar - Even if you just drink 1 cocktail, it’s a great experience!

The Singapore sling is one of my favourite cocktails. I often get teased for ordering such a ‘girly drink’, but I don’t care.
There is a small Pub in my hometown of Richmond, BC, Canada called the Pioneer’s Pub that is known for free peanuts and allows its patrons to discard the shells on the floor, which is periodically swept throughout the night. Maybe the owner’s have visited the Long Bar.
It certainly sounds the same kind of deal.
The great thing about the Long bar is that they don’t sweep the floor! I think they do it every couple of days or so, as there is always enough shells to cover the entire 2 floors!
