The policeman’s late
This morning I met a guy who bought 3 PC’s from me - He was a generally nice guy and mentioned that he was a policeman. I went on to say I needed a policeman last night and explained my story with the office seizing my stuff. He felt for me but didn’t really know the laws regarding this so couldn’t help me there and then, however he said that he would have come down to try and help me out. Anyway, when we were negotiating the price for the PC’s, I jokingly said if I gave him a good deal I could call him if I was ever in trouble - He agreed, he told me I can call him anytime - That’s probably the wisest investment I’ve ever made.
In Thailand, it’s very much who you know - If you have connections, especially with the police, you can literally get away with murder. I don’t agree with this corrupt system, however there’s nothing I can do about it other than follow the same path everyone else seems to want to do: build connections with people that have power.
Today I finally spoke to the guy who I’ve been needing to speak too for the last 2 weeks regarding vacating the office. It’s amazing what a bit of action can do. He started the conversation outlining many clauses in the contract, but what he didn’t know is that I prepared myself: I’ve spent hours reading through the contract, searching google for meanings on the words I don’t understand and that meant I knew what I was talking about. By the end of the conversation, we were getting along. He requested a letter which I messaged round to his office today and I’m meeting up with him on Monday morning.
Thanks for everyone that left comments on my previous post, they are much appreciated!
