Being the romantic that I am, I started Valentines Day by cooking my girlfriend breakfast in bed followed by returning home for a light lunch with 12 gorgeous red roses in hand.
We then went out for a BBQ feast at The River Side Terrace located in the Oriental Hotel by the side of the river. The setting was extremely romantic, pretty much perfect in fact. The moon was out, there were many boats with bright lights along the river and we were surrounded in luxury furnishings, good service and great food.
The night started off by the Oriental having a young boy and girl going around handing out roses to all the ladies… myself and the missus could see these 2 kids were very tired and that they just wanted to be in bed – Although the Oriental was just trying to make the deal sweet that sort of back fired as myself and my girlfriend felt kind of sorry for them!
We were then given a complementary strawberry cocktail (from adults this time!). On to the food: There was a huge selection of food from different corners of the globe, including salads, fresh bread with pate, sushi, Indian, Thai, a huge BBQ with grilled meats and seafood along with an impressive huge sirloin roast beef joint. As expected, the food was very good. Here is a video of the food that was on offer:
Here is a slice of that roast beef:

As we were getting our desserts, the lights dimmed and a boat pulled up along side the hotel and ripped open a great firework display. Here is a little video of ending…
This was the first time my girlfriend had seen an ice sculpture and at first didn’t believe it was made out of ice! She loved it.

Conclusion: This review is more aimed at having the BBQ buffet on Valentines Day rather than any other ordinary day as the price is a lot higher and they laid on a lot more stuff. The food was good, but there was nothing that really stood out from being absolutely great. I booked up a table for Valentines as I wanted to make the evening very special for my girlfriend, and I’m sure I achieved that. So, if you want to achieve the same, I highly recommend it.
I’m pretty sure the BBQ is a fair bit cheaper on any other night but the buffet was 7,000b ($200) (champagne was extra :()
