I am often asked what tools I use, and I enjoy learning what tools other entrepreneurs have in their arsenal, so thought I’d create a list here :)
Gadgets
Since late 2009, I upgraded my camera to a Canon S90 and so far, I’m really pleased with the results. It’s not DSLR quality, but the best pocket sized camera on the market today, according to various resources.
I chose to work on a Sony Vaio notebook over a Macbook, due to the performance and the fact they are extremely light-weight – both of which are really important to me as I travel so much. I also have a netbook, an Acer Aspire One which I use when flying.
Other gadgets I travel with include an ipod Nano, the Nike+ kit to monitor my running, an external HD and a bottle opener. You see, I like to keep things simple.
Software
I back-up my files on a regular basis using Mozy – The service costs next to nothing and has saved my arse a few times. I can’t recommend the service enough.
My browser of choice is Firefox, although I have started to use Chrome more recently.
When it comes to work, I don’t use that many tools as I prefer to keep things as light-weight as possible. Although, I use the following tools and services on a regular basis:
- CamStudio – Open source project that let’s me record on screen actions.
- Easy Thumbnails – Let’s me re-size multiple images at once
- Photoshop – The tool I use to create and edit graphic files.
- Google Docs – Invoices, spread-sheets and work documents.
- FireBug and Notepad Plus – For editing code
- FileZilla – My FTP client of choice.
- Wordpress – Open source blogging/CMS platform.
- Word Tracker – For keyword research.
- Google Reader – To keep up-to-date with blogs and websites I’m interested in.
