This last week has been a real drag… moving 500 sites over to a new server. There is currently a team of 5 (including myself) moving sites over. It’s such a bore!
Last week my old server company lost 10 MySQL databases, which equals to around 80 hours of work :( I was mega pissed as they should have been backed up every 24 hours. Anyway, with a few new big projects on hand and with working with enough sites, I’ve took the leap to a fully dedicated server – And bwoy is it a monster – A tyrabyte of bandwidth with the option to add more!
I researched long and hard on which company to go with, it’s amazing that many just didn’t fit my needs. That was before a friend recommended I check out Rackspace. The minute of entering their site, a pop up comes up with live help – this is a cool feature. I first declined and had a route around the site to learn more by myself before I decided to open her up (doesn’t that sound rude?) again. After discussing my requirements, I received a phone call from a really knowledgeable sales rep and we went from there. After negotiating for a week, I finally realised I was going to get the best price I could and went for it. Rackspace provided me with the most expensive quote, even after negotiating, but the support over 5 days has honestly been the best support I’ve ever received (on-line and off-line).
I was so impressed with the support from the sales rep, I sent an email to his boss (I’ve never done that before!):
Hi Stan,
I’m all up for giving credit where it’s due which is the reason for this email.
Over the last month or so I’ve spoke to more web hosting companies than I have wanted too. It’s been a painful experience, one that I never want to do again. That was until I visited racksapce. From the first few seconds I visited the rackspace.com site (with the live help pinging up – neat feature by the way) to the more than helpful sales rep: Abel Pacheco – I’ve been blown away by the great service you guys have provided me.
I’m probably one of the least technical know-how customers you have, but thanks to Abel’s patience and helpful knowledge, he has made the process of understanding your products as easy as he could have made it. I’m impressed.
You guys are now in the middle of setting up my server and I’m just hoping that my account manager is as helpful as Abel has been, if so, I know I’m in for a real smooth service ahead, which means a lot as I can now concentrate of my core business tasks.
Thanks.
Chris
To get a scale of Rackspace, I heared that they hosted youtube.com in their early days. If you rely on your sites being up 24/7 and want the best support there is, check out Rackspace – but make sure your sitting down when they quote you :)
